The course is aligned with Transport Canada requirements (TP 13008E) and delivered following Canadian Red Cross standards.
All sessions are led by certified Canadian Red Cross instructors experienced in marine emergency response. Training is delivered in small groups to maximise hands-on practice and personalised scenario feedback.
Fully in-class at our Mississauga training centre. The 31-hour program combines video instruction, live demonstrations, guided hands-on skills practice, and two fully evaluated practical scenarios simulating real marine emergencies.
Transport Publication (TP) 13008E is the federal standard governing Marine Emergency Duties (MED) training in Canada. Completing this course satisfies Transport Canada's advanced marine first aid requirement for commercial vessel personnel.
Your certificate meets federal Transport Canada requirements for advanced marine first aid — required for certain vessel crew positions under Canadian maritime regulations.
Successful graduates receive both a 3-year Canadian Red Cross certificate and Transport Canada certification — two credentials from a single course.
Transport Canada TP 13008E does not permit recertification. When your 3-year certificate expires, you must retake the full Marine Advanced First Aid course.
Required for designated medical person in charge (MEDPIC) on vessels, senior ratings, and crew members with advanced medical response responsibilities under the Canada Shipping Act.
This course is open to anyone — no prior qualifications needed. It is particularly essential for the following roles.
Officers and crew designated as medical person in charge on commercial vessels under the Canada Shipping Act.
Personnel on offshore platforms, supply vessels, and marine industrial operations requiring advanced medical response capability.
Volunteer coast guard auxiliarists and search-and-rescue team members needing advanced certification for on-water response.
Crew on passenger-carrying ferries, excursion vessels, and water taxis where passenger safety obligations require advanced training.
Commercial fishing vessel skippers and crew operating in remote waters where emergency medical response may be hours from shore.
Leaders of dive charters, marine expeditions, and offshore adventure operations requiring the highest level of first aid readiness.
The 31-hour program covers seven core learning areas, with marine-specific content woven throughout each module.
All four requirements must be met to receive your Canadian Red Cross and Transport Canada Marine Advanced First Aid certificates.
