Emergency First Aid is an entry-level Canadian Red Cross course. Specifically, it teaches you to recognize and respond to the most common life-threatening emergencies. The blended format requires 4 hours of self-paced online theory completed at home. After that, you attend a 5-hour in-person skills day (CPR-C) or a 4-hour skills day (CPR-A). Alternatively, the full-day classroom option is 7 hours (CPR-C) or 6.5 hours (CPR-A), delivered in one day. Because access is instant, you can start your online modules immediately after registering.
Yes, the course includes a closed-book, independently completed written knowledge evaluation. In addition, you must achieve a minimum score of 75% to receive your certificate. However, learners with a documented disability that affects written evaluation may be offered a one-on-one verbal assessment by the instructor.
Your Canadian Red Cross Emergency First Aid certificate is valid for three years. After expiry, you can take a recertification course to renew your credentials quickly. Note, however, that you must hold a valid, non-expired Red Cross certificate to recertify.
