Frequently Asked Questions

Emergency First Aid Hamilton - FAQ

Everything you need to know before you register. Don't see your question? Contact us or check our full FAQ page.

What is Emergency First Aid and what does it cover? +

Emergency First Aid is an entry-level Canadian Red Cross course that teaches you to recognize and respond to the most common life-threatening emergencies. It covers CPR and AED use, choking response, bleeding control, wound care, shock management, burns, fractures, and sudden medical emergencies such as stroke, heart attack, and severe allergic reactions.

Is Emergency First Aid WSIB approved and Red Cross certified? +

Yes. AFAGT is an authorized Canadian Red Cross training provider. Our Emergency First Aid course satisfies WSIB and O.Reg 1101 First Aid Regulation workplace compliance requirements in Ontario. Certificates are accepted by employers, daycares, schools, and healthcare facilities across Ontario and Canada.

What is the difference between CPR-A and CPR-C? +

CPR Level A covers adult resuscitation only, while CPR Level C β€” our most popular option β€” covers adults, children, and infants and includes AED training. Most Ontario workplaces, schools, and daycares require CPR-C. If you're unsure which to choose, CPR-C is the right choice.

How long does the blended Emergency First Aid course take? +

The blended format requires 4 hours of self-paced online theory completed at home, followed by a 5-hour in-person skills day (CPR-C) or 4-hour skills day (CPR-A). The full-day classroom option is 7 hours (CPR-C) or 6.5 hours (CPR-A) delivered in one day. You can access your online modules immediately after registering.

Is there a written test? What is the passing mark? +

Yes. The course includes a closed-book, independently completed written knowledge evaluation. You must achieve a minimum score of 75% to receive your certificate. Learners with a documented disability that affects written evaluation may be offered a one-on-one verbal assessment by the instructor.

How long is the Emergency First Aid certification valid? +

Your Canadian Red Cross Emergency First Aid certificate is valid for three years. After expiry, you can take a recertification course to renew your credentials quickly. To recertify, you must hold a valid, non-expired Red Cross certificate.

Where is your Hamilton training location? +

Our Hamilton training centre is centrally located with easy access from the QEW, Hwy 403, and Hwy 6, and is served by HSR transit. Full address and directions are emailed upon registration.

Can my whole team or company train together? +

Absolutely. We offer group and on-site training for businesses, daycares, schools, and construction companies across Hamilton, Burlington, Stoney Creek, Ancaster, and the surrounding region. Contact us for a custom group quote we bring all the equipment to you.
