Frequently Asked Questions - Emergency First Aid Certification in Ontario

How long does the Emergency First Aid course take?

Total Time Breakdown

The blended format splits the course into two parts. The online theory takes approximately 3–4 hours and can be completed at home at your own pace before your in-person day. The in-person skills session runs as a full day (approximately 6–7 hours including breaks). Most participants complete both parts within the same week.

Is Emergency First Aid accepted by WSIB for Ontario workplaces?

Yes — for lower-risk workplace classifications. Our Emergency First Aid course is Canadian Red Cross certified and WSIB-approved under Ontario O.Reg 1101. It satisfies the requirement for workplaces that fall under the lower-risk category. Higher-risk workplaces with 5 or more employees typically require Standard First Aid. Contact us if you're unsure which level applies to your workplace.

What is the difference between Emergency First Aid and Standard First Aid?

Emergency First Aid is a one-day blended course covering foundational first aid skills — CPR/AED, bleeding control, choking, basic wound care, burns, and shock. It is suitable for lower-risk workplaces and individuals. Standard First Aid is a two-day course that adds anaphylaxis response, spinal management, stroke and diabetic emergencies, and more advanced wound and fracture care. It is required by Ontario O.Reg 1101 for higher-risk workplaces and organisations with 5 or more employees. If you're unsure which to take, call us and we'll help you confirm.

Do I get my certificate the same day?

Yes. A temporary Red Cross certificate is provided the same day you complete your in-person skills session — valid immediately for employer submission. Your permanent digital certificate is emailed within 2–4 business days and is valid for 3 years from the date of your in-person training.

What should I bring to the in-person skills day?

Bring a valid photo ID and wear comfortable, moveable clothing — you'll be on the floor practising CPR, applying bandages, and performing first aid skills. It helps to bring water and a light snack, and to arrive 10 minutes early to complete sign-in. Proof of online theory completion will be verified by the instructor before the skills session begins.

Which location should I choose?

All three locations deliver the identical WSIB-approved, Red Cross certified Emergency First Aid course. Choose the one closest to you:

  • Mississauga — best for GTA, Peel Region, Brampton, Oakville, Etobicoke
  • Hamilton — best for Hamilton, Burlington, Stoney Creek
  • St. Catharines — best for Niagara Region, Niagara Falls, Welland, Brock University
Can I reschedule if my plans change?

Yes. Sessions run most days across all three locations. If you need to reschedule, contact us at +1 (289) 890-2898 or info@fagt.ca and we'll move you to the next available date without hassle.

Do you offer group or on-site Emergency First Aid training for companies?

Yes. We offer mobile on-site Emergency First Aid group training for businesses, schools, retail chains, and organisations across the GTHA and Niagara Region. Call +1 (289) 890-2898 or visit our Group Training page for custom scheduling and group pricing. Minimum 6 participants required for on-site delivery.

Does Emergency First Aid include CPR and AED training?

Yes — CPR Level C and AED are fully integrated into the Emergency First Aid course. You will practise CPR on adult, child, and infant mannequins, operate a training AED, and use a pocket mask for rescue breathing. There is no need to take a separate CPR/AED course if you are registering for Emergency First Aid.
