Updated for the 2026 WSIB First Aid Program
On June 22, 2026 the WSIB aligned Ontario's first aid courses with the national CSA Z1210:24 standard and renamed the certificate levels. If your employer still uses the old names, here's how they match up:
| Emergency First Aid | → | Basic First Aid | Workplaces with 1–5 people per shift |
| Standard First Aid | → | Intermediate First Aid | Workplaces with 6+ people per shift |
Regulation 1101 itself hasn't changed: the employee-per-shift thresholds, the three-year certificate validity, and the requirement to train with a WSIB-approved provider all stay the same. Certificates issued before June 22, 2026 remain valid until they expire. Read the official details on the WSIB First Aid Program page.

All Ontario first aid certificates are valid for three years from the date of issue. Some higher-risk employers may ask staff to refresh sooner.
Renew with a shorter one-day course before your current certificate expires. If it lapses, you'll need the full course again — so book your renewal a few months early.
Good to know
No. WSIB rules require a hands-on skills component, so a 100% online certificate isn't valid for the workplace. You can complete the theory online through our blended option, then attend one in-class skills day to practise and demonstrate CPR, bandaging and more.
They're the new names for Emergency First Aid (now Basic) and Standard First Aid (now Intermediate). Basic (8 hours) meets the requirement for workplaces with 1–5 people per shift; Intermediate (16 hours) is required for workplaces with 6 or more per shift and covers more injuries and medical emergencies. Both include CPR-C/AED and a 3-year certificate.
Check the WSIB First Aid Program page and its official list of approved training providers, and look for the WSIB First Aid Program badge on the provider's website — approved providers are required to display it. Aspire is WSIB-approved and a Canadian Red Cross Training Partner.
You receive a digital certificate the same day, sent by email as a PDF you can save, print or send to your employer. It's fully valid on its own.
Our instructors are there to help you succeed. If you don't pass a skill or the written check on the first try, you'll get extra coaching and a re-test — the goal is competency, not a barrier.
Choose your location, course and date online and pay in a couple of minutes. A small $5 CPR mask fee may apply on the day. Prefer to talk it through? Call (289) 890-2898 or message us on WhatsApp.
