⚠️ Eligibility — Who Can Take the Recertification Course?

Before booking, confirm you meet the eligibility requirements. Showing up with an expired certificate means you cannot recertify and will need to take the full Standard First Aid course.

✅ You Are Eligible If:

Your current certificate meets ALL of these criteria:

  • Issued by the Canadian Red Cross
  • For Standard First Aid & CPR/AED (not Emergency First Aid only)
  • Valid and non-expired on the date of your scheduled class
  • You can provide the original certificate or digital copy at registration
Tip
Check your certificate's expiry date before booking. Certificates are typically valid for 3 years from the date of issue.

❌ You Are NOT Eligible If:

You must take the full course if any of these apply:

  • Your certificate has expired — even by one day
  • You hold an Emergency First Aid certificate only (not Standard)
  • Your certificate was issued by a different provider (St. John Ambulance, Heart & Stroke, etc.)
  • You cannot locate your original certificate
What to Do Instead
If your certificate is expired or from another provider, book our Standard First Aid & CPR/AED course — the full certification course that is available in the same 3 locations.

Frequently Asked Questions — First Aid Recertification in Ontario

Who can take the first aid recertification course?

Eligibility Requirements

Anyone holding a valid, non-expired Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid & CPR/AED certificate can take the recertification course. Your certificate must still be active on the day of your scheduled class — bring the original or a digital copy to registration. If your certificate has expired or was issued by a different provider, you must take the full Standard First Aid course.

How long is the first aid recertification course?

The recertification course is a 1-day, 8-hour, fully in-person session. You renew your Standard First Aid and CPR/AED credentials in a single day and receive your Canadian Red Cross certificate the same day — valid for 3 years. There is no online component for recertification.

Is the recertification course WSIB-approved?

Yes. All recertification courses at Aspire First Aid are WSIB-approved and fully compliant with Ontario O.Reg 1101 under the Workplace Safety & Insurance Act. Renewed certificates are issued by the Canadian Red Cross and are recognised by all Ontario employers and regulatory bodies.

What happens if my certificate has already expired?

If your certificate has expired — even by one day — you cannot take the recertification course. You must book the full Standard First Aid & CPR/AED course instead. The outcome is identical (3-year Red Cross certification), just delivered via the blended format with an online theory component. Contact us at +1 (289) 890-2898 if you're unsure which course to book.

Do I receive a same-day certificate?

Yes. Upon completing the recertification course you receive a temporary Red Cross certificate the same day — valid for immediate employer submission. Your official digital certificate is emailed within 2–4 business days and remains valid for 3 years.

Where are the recertification courses offered in Ontario?

Aspire offers first aid recertification at three Ontario locations:

  • Mississauga — 206-39 Dundas St E (near Square One, free parking)
  • Hamilton — 127 MacNab St N #3 (Downtown Hamilton, free parking)
  • St. Catharines / Thorold — 70 St David St E (Niagara Region, convenient parking)
Can my employer require first aid recertification?

Yes. Ontario WSIB regulations under O.Reg 1101 require workplaces to maintain valid first aid certifications at all times. Employers are legally responsible for ensuring designated first aiders hold current credentials. Our recertification courses ensure your team stays fully compliant across Mississauga, Hamilton, St. Catharines, and the surrounding regions.

Do you offer group or on-site recertification for organisations?

Yes. We offer mobile on-site group recertification for companies, schools, daycares, LTC facilities, and construction sites across the GTHA and Niagara Region. Call +1 (289) 890-2898 or visit our Group Training page for custom scheduling, on-site delivery options, and group pricing. Minimum 6 participants required for on-site sessions.
